12 OZ Sirloin + Mac And Cheese+ Potato
Holston's Kitchen, on the outside, looks so crisp and clean. The doors were yelling "Come In" every time I have driven passed the restaurant. I finally had a chance to go in and dine. What I found was a chilling surprise.......
Chilling in the fact that the cold air almost took my breath away. It was hot outside, and I guess they were overcompensating. I wasn't sure if I took a wrong turn at the meat cooler. The hostess stand was as cold as the air. There was a bit of confusion on the seating, which confused me because the place was empty. However despite my confused first impressions, I found the interior to be delightful... in a cold, dark kind of way.
The waitress, however, may have actually saved the total experience. She was quick, yet attentive. My drink was filled at least twice before my food arrived, and she probably checked on me a little too much. In my opinion, she needs a raise because she is this facilities best asset. And that's when my food had gotten lost.......
Yes that's right! My food was lost on my plate. My plate was so big that it swallowed all of the food on it. Now you may not see it on the picture because I use good angles, but the gap between all three foods is literally two inches. Now I am grateful my food wasn't touching, but I did not expect a canyon between my food. It made me feel like I didn't get enough. Remember you eat with your eyes before you ever eat with your mouth.
With all the space on my plate, I figured there was something missing. I was right. Its called flavor. The steak needed some marinade, or rub on it. It tasted a lot like steak from home. The mac and cheese was surprisingly tasty! The potato.... was a potato. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad meal. It just could have been so much better.
The Holton's experience may sound worse then it was. I really had a pretty good time. The waitress was awesome. I like the mac and cheese. The steak was cooked to my liking. For a chilly start, drinks in a flash, and a steak with potential, Holston's didn't get the cold shoulder with a picky 3.1 out of 5.
Beef With Broccoli Mix And White Rice
I had no idea what to expect. My first impressions were great. As I walked in, I noticed a nice sitting area outside. It looked very pleasant and so I walked in. I was immediately greeted and set at a table. Picky Nation you know I don't like tables but somehow, this time, it was different. In fact, the whole restaurant had a pleasant mood. People seemed to be having fun and enjoying their meals.
I will say it took a while for the waitress to get to me. I could understand as the place was buzzing. The server was very polite and, upon telling her it was my first time, was more than helpful to me explaining what exactly was on the menu. After a while, I chose to get the beef with a medley of vegetables listed under broccoli. That's right Picky Nation. I found this dish under a section called "Stir Fry Your Way." How great is that. I will say the server let us know the recipes could be altered any way you want. This is great for two reasons. One, I hate most vegetables (onions, peppers, etc), and two, you know the ingredients aren't out of a bag mix. Everything is cooked fresh.
When my food came, I could smell the pleasant aroma from my plate. The broccoli medley came with broccoli, carrots, bamboo (yeah you read that right), and a brown sauce (written this way on the menu). It was delicious. I enjoyed the meat (cooked perfect), the broccoli, carrots, and the sauce. The bamboo was good for about four to five bites. After that, it started to get overwhelming. For a first time dish it was great! Alright it's recap time. The service was great, but a little slow. The food was extremely good. I will be returning. For great service, and a wonderful picky time, I give this spot a picky 4.6 out of 5.
Grilled Barbecue Chicken With Sirloin Steak
As I walked in the door, I was surprised to see that I did not have to wait for a table. I was taken directly to my table and told the server would be with me in just a minute. As promised the server was with me right away. I noticed on the menu they serve Hi-C. Call me a child if you want to but I was quick to order it. I find it offers a variety of fruit flavor with your meal, without the alcohol normally served in fruity drinks at these types of establishments.
I found the server trying very hard to be very professional. The back of his shirt said "I love my job!" and, for once, I believed that shirt. He was suggestive and respectful. He came to take my order and this is the order I gave. I wanted the barbecue chicken with the sirloin cooked medium, fries, and a baked potato.... on its own plate. Yes picky nation I enjoy a juicy steak, but I had the juice to run onto the potato and vice versa on the butter from the potato. As you can see pictured above, he got it correct! What a pleasant surprise.
How was the food you ask? The steak was cooked perfectly. The chicken could have been a little more juicy, but it was good. The fries were steak fries. Finally the potato was just great as well. I had a wonderful experience at this establishment. From service to tastiness, they had it all! For picky friendliness and a lover of service, I have no choice but to give this experience a picky friendly 4.6 out of 5.
12OZ New York Strip
MOO!..... We will get to that later. We should start with a little background information. I first heard of Ye Old Steak House when I saw it featured on a popular show that rhymes with fan versus dude. They made this place look and sound so delicious that I had to go and see it for myself.
As I first walked in, the waitresses seemed to be confused on who should serve me. After much discussion between four different waitresses, the manager came and showed me to my seat. The waitress I did get, which was none of the previous waitresses, was very nice. Let me just warn you, this is another establishment that server soda in a can. As I looked over the menu, I saw just what you would think to see.... steak. I chose the smallest piece I could find. Yes that was a 12 ounce strip. To go with that I ordered fries and a baked potato (yes I was hungry). MOO!
Yes now we can talk about it. You see I order my steaks medium. My steak came rather quickly. I will tell you that it was very undercooked. One could call it a rare steak in spots. I will say the flavor was good. Not great. Good. The fries were really good and the potato, well, was a potato. If you like a big portion of rare steak, this place is for you. If you prefer anything else, you probably will not enjoy yourself. Although boasted about on television, and winning best steak of east Tennessee, there is no other way to describe this experience as anything but forgettable. I would eat there again, but I won't go out of my way to get there. For steak that's a rarity, and picky friendliness, I give this ole house a forgiving 3.9 out of 5.
