People say that breakfast is the most important part of the day. If that is true, the breakfast we eat should be as tasty as it is nutritious. This is what brought me to The Egg and I.
I walked in and was seated right away. I was handed a menu and waited on the server. As I had expected, the omelette section was quite large. After ordering a drink, in which the server was extremely helpful, I ordered the Classic Combo.
As a picky eater, I always enjoy breakfast because it seems that each meal comes with options. This meal was no different. It should be called the "Have it your way" combo. Each time can be different. I decided to try the scrambled eggs, ham, and Belgian waffle.
It seemed the food took a while to come out, but I may have been a little impatient. Finally the food came and I could see it was to my liking. The only thing I was concerned about was the amount of food, which later proved to be no problem. The ham was really good. The waffle was amazing. Now the eggs. Eggs are always risky when you dine out because some people like them less than done and others like them to bounce. I prefer somewhere in between. Some may say "fluffy". I took a bite of the scrambled goodness on my plate and the eggs were cooked just how I had imagined!
Overall I can say I had a really good experience at this restaurant. If you like good waffles, great eggs, and decent ham, you must try The Egg and I. For great food, an awesome server, and a small wait, I am giving this establishment a generous 4.2 out of 5.
Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Ham, And Eggs
As I first walked in, I was very impressed with the décor. It had a modern feel, and to put it plainly, it didn't feel like they were trying to hard. I was seated and the waitress came. She was very friendly and quirky, which I found charming.
I found the menu to have very few options for the picky eater. Of course it seems no breakfast establishments can give you the just the basics without the gross fillers that you scoot to the side of your plate and awkwardly tell the waitress to remove your plate. Wait! I have found a picky gem in this menu. A build your own breakfast menu. What an option. So that is what I did.
I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes, which the waitress told me two would be too much for me to eat. She was correct. I also had the ham and scrambled eggs. The ham was good, the eggs were not bad, but the pancakes were delicious. The only thing that could have been added was chocolate syrup for the pancakes. The great part is that the pancakes do not come with whip cream or butter so you don't have to worry about scraping that off. I would say this breakfast was nothing to write home about but I would eat here again. For picky friendliness and a waitress being herself, I give this establishment a fluffy 3.5 out of 5.
Applewood Bacon And Cheddar
As I walked in the door, I was greeted by a friendly register operator. She was very helpful in the fact that I had not been to this establishment before. I asked what came on the applewood bacon and cheddar and I was told a bagel of my choice, bacon, egg, and cheddar. I chose an asiago cheese bagel and ordered the bagel.
This place was very busy for a small bagel shop. I thought that was a good sign and I was not wrong. I received my bagel and it had a wonderful aroma. My first bite was a great one. I found no special sauces or hidden onions to mess up my order. I received what they told me I would and it was delicious. After I finished, the register operator came to my table to ask how the bagel was. I let her know I really enjoyed it.
If you are looking for a full course breakfast, you will not find it here. However if you are looking for something on the run, this is the place for you. I found this to be a very picky breakfast spot. They have many options for the picky eater, and much for the not so picky eater too. For picky friendliness, and some smiling faces, I give this restaurant a picky 3 out of 5.
Kid's Pancakes Plus Eggs And Ham
No this is not a Dr. Seuss book. This is the first picky fork review of breakfast! I came in and was immediately greeted by a friendly hostess. After setting down I was greeted by a very nice waiter. He took my drink order and was back quickly for my food order. I searched all over the menu but didn't fine anything without grits, gravy, and other sides that picky eaters hate. I asked if I could get a meal and substitute all of these nasty fillers with pancakes. Unfortunately that was not an option.
After thinking a moment, the waiter suggested I get the kid's pancakes with a side of eggs and a 4 ounce ham. I agreed to this because this was pretty much what I desired minus the biscuits. I asked for the pancakes with no butter. If you will look at the picture above, you will see the remnants of butter on the top pancake. I would have showed the butter on it but it was melting quickly. An unknown food runner brought our food out and when I made the comment that I asked for no butter, she simply said sorry and walked on. The eggs were fine and the ham was good. This meal cost me about a dollar more than anything on the breakfast menu. It seems breakfast is hard for this establishment and, at least today, was caught with egg on its face with picky rating of 2.5 out of 5.
