If it looks like something is missing from this plate, you are correct. When they brought my food, the smell was so overwhelming that I could not wait to try it. I know Picky Nation, how could I enjoy something with so many garnishes that I hate? Let me explain.
As I walked in, the first thing I noticed was every table had table cloths and wine glasses. When I visit an establishment with this feature, I always expect more from them. I am disappointed nine times out of ten when this happens. As I go to my seat, the server informs me I will have three servers for the evening. I thought this would be a disaster, however, to my surprise, it worked out very well.
As I scrolled through the menu, I did not find much for the picky eater. I decided to try Roy's Trio. This consisted of a Hibachi grilled salmon, Misoyaki, and a Macadamia nut encrusted Mahi Mahi. I ordered the dish, not knowing how the fish would be served. When the dish came to me, I was taken back by all of the colors, sauces, and garnishes. Had I made a mistake? Will I eat any of this? The aroma coming from the plate was to amazing not to try this. I immediately moved the tomatoes off of the Mahi Mahi and took my first bite. It was heaven in my mouth. It was very sweet and savory. I then moved to the Misoyaki. It was served on a hard potato with a light sauce to which I did not inquire about. Again it was delicious. The sauce was complimentary, and not overpowering. I saved the salmon for last, knowing that I like Hibachi grilled salmon. It was served with a sweet rice and pickled cucumbers. I have to say it wasn't terrible. I will say if was the least of the three. The vinegar coming from the cucumbers overpowered the whole dish.
Roy's melting hot chocolate souffle
This was the desert to top off the evening. I usually do not like ice cream with my desert, but yet again, this dish knows what its doing. The ice cream is there simply to cool down the soufflé. The soufflé was a great addition to the night! Overall this meal was fantastic. It does depend on your personal taste but I would think anyone could find something here they would really love. For a great experience, surprisingly good food, and a desert that will have you melting, I give Roy's in Orlando a 4.8 out of 5.
Mushroom And Swiss Burger
This Hard Rock is a little different than the others I have been to in the past so I was not sure what to expect. The establishment boasts to be the largest Hard Rock in the world and I can see why. I walked in and was taken directly to my seat despite being 9 o' clock on a Saturday night right outside of two theme parks. I attributed this to the two story nature and outside dining area of this establishment. If you are looking to set down, eat, and have peaceful conversation, this is not the place. Apparently more room plus more people equals the loudest music you have ever heard. I couldn't hear the waitress and I doubt she could hear me, which poses the problem for the picky eater.
I decided to have something gourmet, yet simple. The mushroom and swiss burger seemed to the be most logical choice. It usually comes with lettuce, red onion, and tomato as condiments. I knew if that onion hit my burger it would be all over. I am sure you know by now tomatoes go on the side, not on the burger. I placed my order with the waitress and, to my surprise, she did not ask twice.
The burger was accompanied by a side of fries, which were rather good. This entire experience left me wanting my ears shut and my mouth wide open. Kudos to the waitress with the bionic ears as well. For picky friendliness, but a not so inviting atmosphere, we give this experience a booming 4 out of 5.
Ham And Cheese
It's not quite a cheeseburger in paradise. It's more like a secret treasure. I walked in and was floored. This establishment is such a whole in the wall that I don't even know if they know they are open. I normally don't go into establishments that look like this but it was suggested to me. I would have walked out but I figured I was already there. The art work on the walls are a turn off to people from out of town I am sure. The bathroom was terrible as well. Furthermore I noticed they serve cans of soda instead of fountain drinks. Usually that is not a good sign.
I sat down at a table, trying hard not to offend anyone by staring. The menu was large and full of sandwiches. Most were not for the picky eater but if you look hard enough, you can find something. Ahhhh... a build your own option. Build your own options are my favorite. The cooks are use to getting strange orders and I can get what I want. I ordered a ham and cheese with black olives. Simple enough.
When the sandwich arrived it was hot and cheesy. I didn't order a side because they didn't have much for picky eaters such as myself. The sandwich was big enough. The ham was really good. Plenty of olives for taste. A great surprise after looking around this establishment. My suggestion to you. If your in Orlando, hunt this place out and order to go! Overall the establishment needs moved to a better location, updated, and more friendly to the mainstream audience, which I suppose was the point. However, they make a mean sandwich that you should definitely partake of at least once. For picky friendliness, but lack of environmental friendliness, Pom Pom gets a cheery 3.8 out of 5.
Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Ham, And Eggs
As I first walked in, I was very impressed with the décor. It had a modern feel, and to put it plainly, it didn't feel like they were trying to hard. I was seated and the waitress came. She was very friendly and quirky, which I found charming.
I found the menu to have very few options for the picky eater. Of course it seems no breakfast establishments can give you the just the basics without the gross fillers that you scoot to the side of your plate and awkwardly tell the waitress to remove your plate. Wait! I have found a picky gem in this menu. A build your own breakfast menu. What an option. So that is what I did.
I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes, which the waitress told me two would be too much for me to eat. She was correct. I also had the ham and scrambled eggs. The ham was good, the eggs were not bad, but the pancakes were delicious. The only thing that could have been added was chocolate syrup for the pancakes. The great part is that the pancakes do not come with whip cream or butter so you don't have to worry about scraping that off. I would say this breakfast was nothing to write home about but I would eat here again. For picky friendliness and a waitress being herself, I give this establishment a fluffy 3.5 out of 5.
Applewood Bacon And Cheddar
As I walked in the door, I was greeted by a friendly register operator. She was very helpful in the fact that I had not been to this establishment before. I asked what came on the applewood bacon and cheddar and I was told a bagel of my choice, bacon, egg, and cheddar. I chose an asiago cheese bagel and ordered the bagel.
This place was very busy for a small bagel shop. I thought that was a good sign and I was not wrong. I received my bagel and it had a wonderful aroma. My first bite was a great one. I found no special sauces or hidden onions to mess up my order. I received what they told me I would and it was delicious. After I finished, the register operator came to my table to ask how the bagel was. I let her know I really enjoyed it.
If you are looking for a full course breakfast, you will not find it here. However if you are looking for something on the run, this is the place for you. I found this to be a very picky breakfast spot. They have many options for the picky eater, and much for the not so picky eater too. For picky friendliness, and some smiling faces, I give this restaurant a picky 3 out of 5.
